My father was a military officer and I grew up in Encinar de los Reyes
or Royal Oaks. We moved away twenty years ago and while I head back to Spain
pretty regularly I usually bypass Madrid to see family in Andalucia. Last
summer, we spent a few days in Madrid and planned to check out our old home.
Plans changed and we never made it though we drove by Alcobendas I remember
being struck by how built up it was. Sounds like it was better we didn't visit.
I probably would have cried myself silly. I have such great memories of being a
kid there. I can't believe it. No elementary school? No swimming pool? No
trails or trees? Please tell me Leo's is still there. What about the stable
where I used to go riding? Does anyone have any photos of the place then and
now?
